    Dear Friends,
We were heartbroken to learn here in Australia of Carol’s death. It was so shocking to us that we thought it must have been an error and we are deeply grieved (now that we have read the obituary) to know that it is only too true. She was such a loving and happy woman. We have never known a more hard working person. She was a great daughter, mother and wife. Her work in the school and especially the Delta Gamma community was exemplary. We grieve with you and we are sharing your tears.
    With love,
    June and Bill Shassere

    Dear Strom family,
My deepest sympathy in the loss of your wife/Mom/Grandma. I met Carol many years ago as a new DG Alum here in Indy. We remained friends through many common terms on many DG boards. Even though in recent years we saw much less of each other, I was always proud of our continued DG allegiance. I most recently saw Carol at the Lafayette Founders Day for Delta Gamma. My daughter is now a Purdue DG and I was so proud to introduce her to Carol. Her devotion to her beloved Delta Gamma was so obvious; she will be a roll model for many years to come for all young DG’s.

She was most proud of her children, and new grandchildren, and we spoke of all of you at our last visit just a few weeks ago. I know you will miss her terribly, but know that she has given you so much by showing you what it means to be dedicated to something you hold very dear.

    Much sympathy,
    Nancy Lubbers Cheesman

As I learned of Carol’s unfortuate passing reading her obituary this weekend, a flood of memories filled my head. Shortridge – senior year – 1964 – Madrigal singers – great times – innocent times. I wish I had kept in touch and known her after high school. We went our separate ways.

My deepest sympathy to her family and friends. I’ll always remember her as she was 40 years ago.

    To the Strom Family,

My deepest sympathies on your loss. I was so surprised and saddened to hear the news from my DG sisters.

Carol (Mrs. Strom, as we called her, even as adults)had so much energy and love for Delta Gamma at Butler. Her energy was contagious — even at 1 a.m. when we were still going through lists of names (rush in the “old days” was probably different than it is today). We would be so tired, and tired of each other, but she kept us “afloat” until we reached our objective. She was always so kind and giving. Always just a phone call away. Always ready to help us whenever we needed her. Thank you for sharing her with us! She made a difference in many DG girls’ lives.

    Sincerely,

    Keli McCullough Quinn

I can’t believe that Carol’s gone! She was my alum advisor when I was scholarship chrmn. at the DG house at Butler about 20 yrs. ago. I know that she spent countless hours doing Delta Gamma work over the years and I can tell you from personal experience that she made such a difference in my life. She was enthusiastic, encouraging, and believed in my abilities when it meant so much to me. She helped me mature in areas that I’d had no previous experience and it helped me immensely later on in my career. I attended the DG convention in Denver with her and had so much fun. She had a great sense of humor. We all looked up to her. She was so caring and down-to-earth…very approachable when some alums were aloof and “scary” to us. After I graduated, I helped compile the paperwork and recommendations needed for her Cable Award. It became my personal mission to see that she got the recognition that she deserved for all of her hard work. I can remember her bringing Monica and Matt with her to the DG house when they were young. They would bake me cookies for every occasion. I’ve kept in contact with her each year at Christmas, but didn’t realize that she was ill. Please know that there are many Delta Gamma women who looked up to her and thought the world of her…I certainly did! When I graduated, my mother even wrote her a thank you note to express how grateful she was for her influence in my life. You have my sincere sympathy…my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I know that she’s probably getting all of the DGs in heaven organized and “doing good” already.
    In sympathy,
    Dawn Roberts Hays

    To Carol’s Family –
I was so saddened to hear about Carol’s condition, and then her passing away. I am the current Delta Gamma adviser at the Alpha Tau Chapter (Butler University). I have known & worked with Carol for many years. I can not imagine going to a DG event & not seeing her smiling face. Or calling to share Alpha Tau news – which she always loved to hear. Or dropping a quick e-mail about DG stuff. It just does not seem true. I sat at the table with her at Founder’s Day. She looked a little under the weather, but I certainly did not expect this. I am still in shock & disbelief. She has made such a positive impact in our lives! Please know that Delta Gammas every where are grieving her loss. And, sending prayers to your family!

Carol – we will deeply miss you!

    To Carol’s family,

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Carol’s sudden passing. I will surely miss her. We became reacquainted through Delta Gamma and I always looked forward to seeing Carol at Convention. She was the epitome of “Doing Good” in Delta Gamma – always cheerful and always working for her chapter and the entire Fraternity.

I also always looked her up when I was in Indy at the Fashion Mall! Those were fun times.

Cathy, I only knew Carol as your older sister who we loved to annoy when we played at your house in grade school! It was so fun knowing Carol as an adult in different circumstances. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know she was a wonderful big sister to you.

As I read the numerous tributes and memories of dear Carol, it is so obvious how many people she touched in her life. I first met Carol in 1988 when she was the DG chapter adviser for Butler and I was the visiting DG traveling consultant. The members loved and respected her, and it was for good reason. DG meant so much to her, and she always went above and beyond. She and I connected again in 2000 at Convention in Phoenix, and I got to serve on Cabinet with her, which was a delight. I was so glad to be in touch with her again, and enjoyed corresponding with her. She was a loving, caring human being, loved her family and loved Delta Gamma, and so many DGs love her. I will have wonderful memories of Carol and am so very sorry for your loss. Her smile will stay with me forever. With deepest sympathies, Staige Davis Hodges

    Dear Family,
Our prayers are with you. Carol was our advisor while I was at Alpha Tau 78-82, and an excellent role model. I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for providing friends of Carol the opportunity to share with each other just how much we will miss this wonderful woman. I take solice in the knowledge that I told her in person how much I thought of her when I last saw her on Febuary 25-27 at the Delta Gamma recruitment seminar. I was fortunate to room with Carol and we caught up on Indianapolis. You see, Carol always emailed me to keep me in the DG-Indy loop and more importantly, to keep me up to date with your family. Monica and Matt, she was so incredibly proud of you and what you have done with your lives….and that you both made her a grandmother. She showed me pictures of your children and my gosh, she just beamed. Monica, we talked aobut your going into law and even about your ice skating. It was lovely to see her so happy. My last vision of her is her walking down the hotel hallway rolling her suitcase in one hand and her grandchildren photo book in the other and looking back at me when she said, “Pete, I’ll see you when I see you”. Carol is a treasure who will not soon be forgotten.

    Dear Monica and Matt,

My greatest sympathy in the loss of your wonderful mother. For so many years she drove you to my summer enrichment classes, and supported you in enriching activities. Whenever you had a special event in your lives she would notify me. I so enjoyed hearing Monica sing with the symphony and was privileged to see the many photos and stories of your adult lives. Your mother cherished you and gave all that she had to your development. I am sure that you have wonderful memories of the great love that she had for you and that you will share those stories with your children and grandchildren.

    Sincerely,
    Kathy Robbins

To the Strom family – Thanks for sharing Carol with all of us who got to know her through Delta Gamma. From the first time I met her four years ago, she took a genuine interest in me and my life – always asking for updates and sharing her updates as well. She was so caring and giving and will be sorely missed.

    Dear Strom Family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have worked closely with Carol for several years in Delta Gamma, most recently as Regional Recruitment Specialists. I saw her the last weekend in February at the DG Recruitment Seminar and we had a chance to talk and catch up. She was so proud to show us the pictures of her new grandbabies and it was wonderful to see her face light up as she described the little ones. She always brought so much laughter and enthusiasm to our group and I feel so privileged to have known her. I hope you find comfort from family and friends during this difficult time, and especially knowing that Carol made such a difference in so many lives. She will be greatly missed – Delta Gamma has lost one of its best and most dedicated alumnae.

    In sympathy,
    Heidi Biller Wolcott

I was a classmate in high school, SHS ’64. I remember Carol’s talent in music and her good humor and exuberance. I know she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

To Dr. and Mrs. Schuster and Cathy:
I was so shocked and saddened to read about Carol’s death. It’s especially difficult to grasp when it is someone from my early childhood….the “old neighborhood” and PS #70, up through our overlapping years at Butler University. I cannot imagine the grief you all must feel. I hope that grief is eased somewhat with the knowledge that others share your sorrow. Please know that you and all the rest of the family are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Warmest regards, Chris Carlson

    Dr. and Mrs. Schuster:

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of Carol. While I have not seen her since our MYF days at North Church, I am finding we have many friends in common from IIPres. Church and Wash. Twnshp. Schools
(including Marsha Phillips Reynolds–another childhood friend from North). Another bond we have shared is working in early childhood education.

May your family find strength and peace through the life she lived and the numerous lives she touched.

    Sincerely,
    Linda (Stenberg) Hartman

I am sorry to hear about Mrs. Strom. She was my history teacher at SHS in 1972, when I was a sophmore. My father died that year and she was so supportive and encouraging. She was always one of my favorite teachers. I am retired and I started working at SHS as an instructional aide. I was very sad about her death. Be proud that your wife, mom, grandma, was truly a wonderful lady. Cheryl
