Clara Marie Patricia Idzi Byrd, 76, died Sun. Aug. 3, 2006 at Community Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, daughter of John and Catherine Idzi. As a young woman she was employed as a secretary at Union Title Company. During the years her children were in school, she became very active in the community, volunteering as a Cub Scout den mother for Pack #93, CCD teacher at St. Simon Catholic Church, and band booster at Mt. Vernon Community High School. Following her husband’s retirement from Western Electric, she was active making ornaments for the children at the Riley Children Hospital and refurbishing toys for the “Toys of Love” program sponsored by the Western Electric Pioneers. In her spare time she enjoyed making hand crafts, collecting bells and finials, and playing gin rummy. Mrs. Byrd is survived by her husband, Charles Richard (Dick) Byrd; their children, son, Eric John Byrd of Lexington, KY and his wife, Janet Hippelheuser Byrd; grandson Christopher Byrd of Louisville, KY and granddaughter Kimberly Byrd of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Dr. Richard William Byrd of Lexington, KY and his wife, Kelly Bonar Byrd; grandson Zachary Byrd, and granddaughter Sarah Byrd; daughter, Julie Ann Byrd Ernest of Bloomington, Indiana and her husband, James Ernest; granddaughter Carmen Ernest, and grandson Caleb Ernest. Visitation will be from 5-8pm, Wed., at Harry W. Moore Mortuary, 8151 Allisonville Road. Additional visitation at 11:00 am will be conducted prior to funeral services at 1:00 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 7, 2006 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will be in Our Lady of Peace following the service.
