I wanted to say what a joy it was to work with Dr Richards in my job as a sales representative that called on his office. He was very honest with me if there were problems and complimented me when those problems were taken care of. I truly learned the meaning of being honest and giving people the chance to correct issues, instead of making quick decisions.
I am grateful that our paths crossed.

We can grieve, but not as those who have no hope. We have the hope of the ressurection. I can tell you in faith, God will not take you down a path that He will not be right there walking it with you. We have so many wonderful memories of your family and Mark. He touched so many lives, ours included. Trust in God, He is faithful. We will continue to pray for strength and comfort for each of you. God’s grace and blessings to you all. Alishe Dobberstein

As an Indianapolis area Pharmacist, I have known many patients of Dr. Richards. I believe you know more about someone by listening to the way that others speak of them. All of his patients that I have encountered spoke of not only a great physician, but an even greater MAN. Personally I would like to thank Mark for being a wonderful Doctor and friend to my most important patients, my Parents. The care and compassion he gave to my parents, patients of his for years, is greatly appreciated . The world is a better place because of all the individuals that Mark Richards has touched both professionally and personally. Thanks for everything. Our thoughts and prayers to the entire Richards family.

Dr Richards graciously and generously served as a mentor for my Physician Assistant students on clinical rotation. We only knew him for a short time, after a current student requested to spend her month in Family Medicine with him. Already, however, the word has gotten around, and students were lining up to request a precious month with Dr Richards. He was available, warm, and welcoming – to students and PA program staff & faculty alike – and he provided clinical experiences that will improve the lives of all whom our PA students will treat in the future. Our students loved Dr Richards, and our program will sorely miss him.

May God be with Dr. Richards’ family and comfort you with wonderful memories of this remarkable man.

No verse I know could describe Mark more. Mark obviously didn’t see death as a defeat, but as a departure and God’s final and ultimate rescue.

He will be missed by our family as a doctor, counselor and cousin.

Mark will be turely missed by us. He prayed with me at times and always tried to be encouraging. He took good care of us, my husband, Doug, Nathan and my self. It was always special to talk with Mark about Hanna and the Basketball team and of my son who coached Mooresville Girls basketball team and of my grand daughter Beth Botzum. I always felt secure talking with Mark for the past 21 years. He was always there to take care of the 4 of us. I feel as if I have lost a son as well as a doctor and a friend. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. May God keep you in this time and may his present fill your hearts and spirit. Love always Connie, Douglas and Nathan Johnson.

I am so very sorry to hear of Dr. Mark’s passing. He was my doctor since 1987, whenever I lived in the area. He delivered 2 of our children, and helped us through countless medical issues, new parent concerns, and unfortunate mishaps with the children. His kindness, faith, and compassion shone through in his calm, quiet demeanor. He was a gentle giant, an amazing man, and will be sadly missed.

Dear Cyndi, Bethany, Zack, Hannah and Leah, As former patients of Dr. Mark we can hardly fathom his sudden illness and call Home to Glory. We know this is no mistake and the scripture comes to mind “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Ps. 116:15. Please accept our heartfelt prayers and sympathy. Sometimes in the depth of sorrow we forget there’s One above, keeping ever constant vigil, bringing comfort through His love. Favorite words from hymns and scripture can remind us once again, we are blessed to have a Savior who’s a gentle, caring friend. “What a friend we have in Jesus!” We are always in His care. “In His arms He’ll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.” Love in our Lord and Savior,

Looks were always deceiving with Dr. Mark – to behold he was a big, wooly bear of a man – usually with an untucked shirt tail! To speak with, Dr. Mark was a gentle giant with compassion and love of the Lord. Mark’s Reward came too early for some, but we know that Mark kept faithfully to God’s timetable and will rejoice in the loving Grace that has freed him from our earthly pain and suffering. God Speed, Gentle Giant – we’ll miss you, Cousin.

He is with our Lord and nothing can be better than that. God bless you all,

Dr. Richards was an extremely popular teaching physician for Family Medicine. It is truly a great loss to our discipline. He was extremely loyal to teaching students and was always eager to have third-year medical students work with him in his practice. Some comments from students were:

“He was a wonderful teacher. I really feel he focused on my education.”
“Dr. Richards was an excellent [teacher] who taught me a lot and has made me consider family practice as a career.”
“Professional, compassionate and good teacher. Dr. Richards really opened my eyes to the multi-faceted field of family medicine.”

Colleagues and students for whom he touched have been blessed to have known him.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Richards Family.

Although I did not know Dr. Richards, I would like to convey to the family how much we are enjoying his daughter, Bethany. She is a wonderful asset to the BRV staff. My heart goes out to her and the family.

After reading the obituary, I was certainly impressed with Dr. Richard’s accomplishments and interests. He certainly left a fine legacy in Bethany, and it was so touching to read that his children were his pride and joy.

May faith, family and friends help to sustain you in the days ahead; and may his spirit remain with you forever.

When I was transferred to the Indianapolis area 3 years ago, I mentioned to a fellow employee that I needed to find a family physician. He quickly said, “you need to go to Dr. Mark Richards…that he was great”. I followed his advice and set up an appointment with Dr. Richards and found him and his office staff a joy. During one of my visits with Mark, he told me that he practiced medicine just enough to ’pay the bills’…so he could spend the rest of his time ’coaching and being with his kids.’ Mark was a wonderful and caring physician and by his life and example, I trust he brought honor and glory to his Lord and Savior. Please accept our deepest condolences.

    Dear Doctor Richards family:
I first met Dr. Richards when my company moved me to Indianapolis in 1996. During one of my visits, Doc asked me where I was from. I told him I was from a small village in the Carpathian foothills of Poland. He stopped what he was doing and said “I’ll be right back”. He came back with a photo album of his visit to my country when he was playing a USA basketball tournament when I was living there . Many years latter, I end up in Carmel USA and Doc Richards is my Doctor. I dont no why but that just warms my heart. And so that is how our friendship started. Doc Richards became my doctor by me selecting his name out of a company insurance booklet. Doc Richards had a way of making me feel like a friend visiting a friend rather then a patient visiting a doctor. I will miss him very much.

    Dear family:
Many times I admired your pictures on the wall at the office. You know I liked Dr. Richards because he usually wore athletic shoes. In Oct of 2001 he felt something in an exam of my husband – Tom was later diagnosed with prostate cancer and then kidney cancer and then lymphoma and then of course skin cancer at age 47. God brought us through some dark days – God is good all the time and we trust Him for each one and praise him for Dr. Richards’ first step.
