Fred was the darling of PageTurners, our Carmel library book club. His attention to detail, his amusing stories, and his quotable quips always added a little extra something to our group. And, of course, Fred loved being the only male in the bunch! We’ll miss you, dear friend.

I met Fred in 2002 in New Orleans. He was a seat mate of mine, on the way to the D-Day Museum. We were attending an LCT Reunion, and I was there as a son of an LCT Skipper (Ltjg Thomas Butler LCT 926) We had a great time talking, and I intended to look him up later. We talked a few times, and this week I learned that he had passed. My condolencesed to the family. In the short time I knew him, he was a funny, intelligent, proper, and interesting man. I always heard a lot about Grandpa Binder, but was finally able to meet him at Kyle’s graduation. Immediately, I was caught up in his charm and passion. Once we met, it was always a pleasure to bump into him around town. We’ll be thinking of all of the family in the week ahead.
