To “Mrs. Higbee”’s family, I worked for Pat at the YWCA in the late 1970’s as the YWCA bookkeeper. I have many fond memories of Pat’s leadership at the Y. She also allowed her employees to meet their family obligations by offering “flex time” long before that term became popular. Thank you for including a photo with her obituary. I have not lived in Elkhart for 18 years, but often read the Elkhart Truth’s on-line edition to keep somewhat in touch with so many good memories I had living and working there. May she rest in peace; she shared so much of herself with all of us, who knew her and cherish her memory. Karen Leland

J, I am sorry to hear the news about your mother. I remember the many times we played poker in her home, with little concern for our volume or language. She never complained or asked us to quiet down – perhaps the years of experiences of raising 4 boys. My parents, still alive and kicking in Elkhart, saw her name in the Truth, and called to tell me. Hope you and your brothers are doing well.

Dearest Garrett and Tammy, Rachel and Zach,
You are in our thoughts and prayers as you mourn the loss of your mom and grandma. You have been a witness to many by how you have faithfully cared for and ministered to her in her later years. Praise our Father that He gave her the gift of faith and that she is with Him now for eternity! Even as you miss her presence in your life, we pray that you are comforted by the Holy Spirit and the hope we have in Christ of the life to come. May God allow you to be truly thankful for the ways in which your mom made a difference in your life and may that give you much joy and peace.
Much love to you all, Susan and Newt

    Dear Garrett, Tammy and J,

What a joy it has been to have the prvilege of seeing you serve and love your mother in the true spirit of Ex 20:12 and Eph 6:2.

Pat was an outstanding example to our senior’s of persavering to the end. She was a sparkplug at our activities when she reminded us that she was … “a golf champion, just a few years ago!”

Obviously, her greatest legacy she leaves behind, as she has gone on ahead … is her children left to carry on Christ’s kingdom work until His return or their joining her in Heaven.

    Love & joy,

We didn’t know your Mom personally, but she seemed to be a sweet lady. Sheri and I are praying for you during this time. It was just last December my Dad went home, as you might remember. I understand some of what you’re going through. We love you!

To the Higbee boys and their families,

I have many great memories of your beautiful mom. As a kid coming over to your house and visiting her at the Y, I was always struck with her kind nature and the undeniable grace with which she carried herself. She made you want to be a better person just by being around her. To this day, I have rarely met anyone with as much dignity and character as Patricia Higbee. I also admire the strength and patience she must have had when she was left to raise four boys on her own. I don’t know how she kept her sanity dealing with the likes of you four!…but somehow she managed to make sure you all turned out pretty good. God bless Pat Higbee.

Garret and Tammy – We were so sorry to hear of your mother’s death. Tony’s dad died in December, so our memories of what it is like is still fresh. We are weeping with you.

  21. Garrett Higbee says

    August 29, 2006 at 1:00 AM

I want to thank those who have signed this guest book for mom. She was a great lady, and is in the hands of Christ now. She came to a saving faith in her last years. She could never believe that people were anything but good. She realized in reading the Bible that all goodness came from the grace of God and that we are all in need of a savior. We praise God for this. She will be missed, but our hope for all who knew her is that they will recieve Christ and see their need to be saved from the sin and evil that is so evident in these last days. Thanks for your concern and prayers for our family.

    Garrett and Tammy
