Debra Ann (Bates) Black was born January 17th, 1950 to Homer William Bates and Dora (Leasure) Murry at the Ohio State University hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was raised in Caldwell, Ohio and graduated from M.A.T.C. in Zanesville, Ohio in 1985 with a degree in Medical Technology. She loved her career, especially Hematology and Microbiology. She was a member of A.S.C.P. and A.A.B.
She married Delmar Black of Cambridge, Ohio on September 30, 1969 at the Old Baptist Church in Cambridge. Together they raised their family in Cambridge and later moved to Indiana in 1989, where she worked in the laboratory at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Indiana.
Debra had two daughters, Pam Black of McConnellsvile, Ohio and Lisa Hardin of Malta, Ohio. She had two sons, Chris (and Jennifer) Black and Brian Martin “Marty” Black, both of Greenfield, Indiana. She had seven grandchildren, Corey Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Seth Black, Lucas Black, Kelsey Hardin, Madeline Black, and Tyler Black. She had two great-grandchildren Carter Wilson and Bryson Hardin.
She had two brothers Bob (and Dinny) Bates, from Caldwell, Ohio, and Jerry Miller, of Cambridge, Ohio and a sister, Nancy (and Dwain) Hall, from Senecaville, Ohio. She had numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Her greatest loves were Delmar, watching her children grow into wonderful adults, and attending her grandchildren’s games, concerts, and weddings. She was an avid Ohio State football fan and she loved watching the Buckeyes on TV and attending games at The Horseshoe. She also loved playing poker and watching Jeopardy on TV and trying to see if she could beat Delmar.
She was a kind, caring, and giving person. She always did her best to make everyone feel welcomed and went out of her way to contribute to the joy of others. She had a great sense of humor and a huge heart who loved to do for others. Her warm gentle smile could light up a room. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She missed her mother and father greatly and is now walking with them again in God’s kingdom. You will be missed Debra Ann Black, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, wife, sister, cousin, and friend.

We so enjoyed Debbie and Delmar in the neighborhood in Chapman. They went out of their way to provide special treats for the neighborhood kids, as if they were their own. We always enjoyed talking and seeing their kids/families when they visited as well. Debbie’s compassionate heart was contagious- it was witnessed in each of her family members. Matt and I and our boys were fortunate to have known and loved her, just as we do Delmar. We pray for her wonderful family as they move forward with their lives but never forget what a blessing she has been.

To The Blacks And Extended Family…
Beth and I wish to extend our deepest symphony to Del and to all. It was my great pleasure to know this first cousin. As many families do we move away and lose touch sometimes for many years. In recent years we as cousins have been reunited and what a blessing! Debbie had a wonderful and quick witted personality and always so easy to talk to. She will be missed…but not forgotten!
